Plastic Hardware Network News: The press conference for the 8th China (Guangzhou) International Integrated Housing Industry Expo and Asia Pacific Building Technology Forum was held in Guangzhou yesterday. Experts at the conference estimated that there is currently at least 200 million tons of overcapacity in crude steel production in mainland China. Compared with traditional construction methods, steel structure buildings are energy-saving and environmentally friendly throughout their entire life cycle. Developing steel structure buildings is becoming a new approach to resolving overcapacity in steel production.
The 8th China (Guangzhou) International Integrated Housing Industry Expo and Asia Pacific Building Technology Forum in 2016 will be held in May this year, and promoting industrialized housing systems such as steel structures will also become one of the main highlights of this year's Guangzhou International Integrated Housing Industry Expo. It has become an urgent task to further resolve overcapacity through market-oriented means during the 13th Five Year Plan period. Hangxiao Steel Structure Co., Ltd.'s Gao Gong Shu Wei stated that the development of steel structure buildings can not only promote green construction, but also alleviate steel surplus. At present, Hangxiao Steel Structure is building a "new type of industrialized steel structure construction production and manufacturing base" and has settled in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. It is the first "national steel structure residential industrialization base" in mainland China, committed to innovating and practicing green steel structure residential systems.
Research and analysis on Hangxiao Steel Structure shows that compared with traditional building methods, steel structure buildings are energy-saving and environmentally friendly throughout their entire life cycle, and can use about 40% less sand, gravel, and cement. According to data provided by the China Association of Building Metal Structures, the production of steel structures in construction from 2012 to 2014 was 36 million tons, 41 million tons, and 46 million tons respectively, accounting for only about 10% of the total steel used in construction. Based on the new construction area of 1.79 billion square meters of housing in mainland China in 2014, if all steel structures are used, an increase of about 30 kilograms of steel per square meter will increase steel consumption by about 50 million tons, equivalent to absorbing a quarter of the excess crude steel production capacity. In this way, it can also alleviate the possible wave of steel mill closures caused by overcapacity.
